Rest day in Florence, Really

We’ve been hitting it hard for over three weeks now and looking forward to a slower pace in Florence. What were we thinking?  We made almost seven and half miles today

and couldn’t be happier. We’ll get on the couch when we get home. Help me understand why we go anywhere but Florence and Tuscany.

Our lodging here is right where it ought to be, one block off the Arno between Duomo and Ponte Vecchia bridge. We walked, shopped and ate,

Alla Vecchia Bettola - I don’t recommend restaurants often, but put this one on your list, and order the Penne ala Bettola pasta, it will not disappoint.

Great day in Florence. We will be back next week with Robert St. John and and a group of English speaking Mississippi folks. It’s good to be led around, with no planning responsibilities, but not nearly as suspenseful. No getting lost and finding our way, no deciphering big red ticket machines in train stations and searching for lodging, in the dark, in far away places… you get the idea. Pam and I have a pretty good deal going in these two by two adventures and I kind of like it that way.

We meet the St. John group tomorrow at 12:00 and we will enjoy our guided week in Tuscany, but will miss our together time alone.

Talk tomorrow from Barbarino/Tavernelle. Ciao, Jim
